Question for Wire fans

I reserved Season 1 and Season 2 of The Wire from my local library. They are holding Season 2 for me now, but it will probably be another 2-3 months before I would get Season 1. Can I watch Season 2 before Season 1 and still have everything make sense or is it essential to watch the seasons in order?

 

Season 2 is kind of a one-off that does stand on its own, but I think you need to get through season 1 first to have a better appreciation of how the unit evolves and all that.

You CANNOT watch The Wire out of order. It would be like starting Crime and Punishment at chapter 8.

I did. In order, I watched 2/3/4/1/5.

And I lived to tell the tale.

 

I watched three after four... I was confused.

 

I've been watching it on OnDemand on HBO. They're up to season four, but episode 9 is not included. What the?? Thank god for the internets.

 

Definitely wouldn't recommend watching it out of order. Borrow FDP's copy of season 1.

 

This is one you should watch in sequence.
