Question about Kerry comment

    I've been wondering.
What would the reaction had been if Kerry had gotten the joke right? Had said the missing "us" as the prepared text indicates he was supposed to.
    Just curious.

Roughly the same frothing in the usual precincts.

Don't think it would have gotten any play.

Not just the missing "us," but also the punchline, which – the NYT dispatch notwithstanding – he also omitted:

    "Just ask President Bush."

(Everybody realizes that Kerry didn't make grades in college as good as Bush, right? Okay, then.)

If he spits it out correctly, no story.

And as for you, Fenian, if by "frothing in the usual precincts," you're referring to the long list of Democrats who ran, did not walk, to distance themselves -- such right-wing extremist nutjobs as Sen. Clinton, Virginia senate candidate James Webb and DNC chairman Howard (Aieeee!) Dean -- then you're right. I can't imagine any of them frothing about the real joke at all.
