Don't know about the hours, but it is still a dump (or at least it was the last time I was there).

Story about that time (and sorry for the threadjack): I had a burger and fries, with a cup of chili on the side. I was about finished with the chili and picked up a fry. Just at that moment, a cockroach crawled out from under the top bun of the burger. A smashed it with my spoon and called the waitress over. She offered me a new burger and fries (no thanks, my hunger was gone completely), then took the food away.

At the end of the meal, they were going to charge me for the chili. I'm at the front counter (which is right next to the front door), and the manager keeps telling me that there was no cockroach in my chili, so I should pay for that. I just finally told him that we could stand there all day and debate it, but does he really want me to loudly say the phrase "A cockroach crawled out of my hamburger!" for every group to hear as they walked into the restaurant?

They didn't charge me for the chili and I haven't been back since ... but I'm still craving a volcano (no snow, and with fries instead of hash browns).

I like the "breaking down the walls between sports and news...good stuff there.

I laughed at that line, too ... especially since I've been in the QCT newsroom, and like most newsrooms, there literally isn't a wall between the sports and news areas.

It's one huge, open room (with probably quite a few empty areas these days).

better than where I sit...between two ad reps. Who constantly talk about ads across my head while I am on the phone.

Best ribs ever = Jim's Rib Haven.

Bon-Air Tavern, with attached liquor store, is a relic from long ago.

And yes, the QC Times sports section is extremely good.

Three casinos right along the river, too. Worked quite a bit in the Quad Cities several years ago. Always enjoyed going over there. Good paper.

Open again and perhaps they got rid of the news requirement: http://www.journalismjobs.com/Job_Listing.cfm?JobID=1349752

Different job. One of their preps guys just announced that he's leaving.

I will give this job high marks. Great area for preps. John Deere Classic is a great PGA Tour event to cover. They do a lot with the website — chats, blogs, etc.

As a competitor of the QC Times for some of our outer coverage area schools, I will vouch for its quality as well. To echo JBHawkEye, they like to use a lot of different multimedia platforms, so if you don't like tweeting, blogging and taking video, etc., these jobs probably won't be for you.

Believe they are taking apps through the end of this week and will begin interviews either next week or the week after (May 7-11). Goal is to have someone hired and on board by middle of June.

Cool. Maybe I'll throw my resume in directly to them. This job is off the Lee website already so I wondered myself what was up. :)
