Pujols to the Angels for 10 years, $250 million

To expect the most competitive people on earth not to carry that over to their own finances is foolish. That's why wise teams never let true superstars get a sniff of free agency. When the competitive juices kick in, it becomes a pure numbers game. They all want to put up the largest total on the scoreboard they can.

    That's all fair.

But Pujols shouldn't have ever said he wanted to be a Cardinal for life.

I wanted to be a sportswriter for life, too. Money changes things.

    He did want that.

I want a lot of things that I wouldn't sacrifice $50 million for.

I'm with you. I really thought they'd get Wilson but Pujols would stay in St. Louis.

The contract may become an albatross but I'm going to enjoy the hell out of this until it does.

Ownership blew it, not Albert. He let the Cardinals know he wanted a market deal and the Cardinals thought they could get him to sign for slightly below-market plus a phone call from Stan Musial.

I'm along for the ride as well.

Yup. Though mothership was taking credit for it.

If Pujols is 31 years old, then I've got a 14-inch penis.

Add 3 years to him and subtract 5-10 inches from me, and we're closer to reality on both sides.

Mistake has been corrected. My bad. Boras has Fielder.

But the jist remains the same. The Angels overpaid, took St. Louis off the hook and the Cardinals will be far better off four years down the road not spending $25-30 million a year on a player with declining skills.

On what rational basis do you suggest he's overpaid? Didn't "the market" just play out in front of us?

    He looks over 35.
