Not very long ago, I lived at Clark and Division. Well, technically, Clark and Goethe, but no one knew what the hell Goethe was, or how to say it. (I lived right next to that Jewel, but never heard it referred to as the Jungle Jewel.) It's still a great neighborhood. (I miss the 3rd Coast Cafe.) I remember wandering west soon after moving there and being surprised it was so close to Cabrini Green, which by that time was not the notorious Cabrini Green everyone had heard of.

Always cracked me up that cabbies who speak zero English understand the correct pronunciation of Goethe ('gair-ta' in case you ever find yourself on the Gold Coast) but anyone living north of Irving Park insists on saying 'go-thee.'
