Problem with the TV

Just seconds after swicthing the channel to ESPN 2 to watch the Division 1A title game, sorry, NCAA Division 1 championship division title game, a large black box shows up in the bottom part of the TV screen. That happens sometimes when I watch ESPN or ESPN 2 or some other channels. Obviously, the solution is don't watch those channels, but would anybody know what might trigger that, if it's the cable or the TV and what can be done to stop it?

Is your closed captioning on in some form?

If you have your closed captioning set to "text", then you'll get that. At least that's what my TV does.
