I'm mixed on Carter and if he is in top 10. I used to think he was a first ballot guy, but then when I looked at how many defensive players were on the outside looking in, I thought differently.
Lets look at receivers at who are better than Carter all-time? When I say better I'm taking on historical context of when they played, stats, dominance, etc.
I would place Rice, Largent, Alworth, Berry, Hutson as clearly better. After that, how does he rank with the likes of Charley Taylor, Don Maynard, Marvin Harrison, Paul Warfield and Tom Fears? I would be inclined to put them behind those five as well, but welcome suggestions that differ. After that, is he better than guys such as Irvin and James Lofton? What about Sterling Sharpe (who I thought was the best receiver I ever saw personally outside of Rice, but the neck injury ended his career) I would put him ahead of the Swann, Stallworth, Hirsch, McDonald, Joiner, Pihos, Monk gang.
I'll let everyone else debate TO and Moss and Tim Brown...

Bruce Smith and Rod Woodson seem to be the only two definites on this list. Perhaps Shannon Sharpe as well.

How many receivers have gotten in on the first ballot? I'm guessing not many.

I don't know if Carter is a top 10 all-time receiver, but he does deserve to make the HOF.

I can always stand to work on my sense of humor.

As of 2008, there were 64 players elected in their first year of eligibility. Steve Largent, enshrined in 1995, is the most recent of four WRs on that list. The others were Lance Alworth, Raymond Berry, and Paul Warfield.

Same here. There seems to be this perception around here that I don't have one.

The one I am not certain of is Dermonti Dawson -- it seems like he should be but how do you really judge a center, particularly if you are not well versed in the intricacies of line play?
