They'll probably have a waiting list:

If you live in a big city, it's not that rare for day care for a newborn to be in the $300-$400.

Sounds like a niche too far? If $2800 a month is chump change for you, you probably already have one of your nannies making sure your kid speaks Mandarin like a native by the time he or she hits three.

I agree with the OP. It will be full with a waiting list.

I already pay more than $1,200/month for one kid. If and when we have a second kid, it'll cost at least $2,500/month for basic day care.

That includes nothing. Not diapers, not formula, not baby wipes, not sheets or blankets, and certainly not a formal learning curriculum.

In other words, this sounds like an incredible bargain.

But if it's a bargain, it's not a status thing than. And (some) Manhattan mothers are such hypochondriacs. Can you just imagine the colds little Johnny will catch from hanging out all afternoon with a bunch of other babies?

Don't get me wrong. I couldn't squeeze out $2800 a month if my life literally depended on it. But for the rarified parent this place seems to be aiming for, I think it undershoots the mark a little.

Chicago tops out at $20,000 a year for it's top preschool:

Sweet! Now my $650 for part-time seems like chump change!

I have friends in DC who paid $48K for day care last year for three kids.

We had a couple years when we paid over $20K a year for two kids and that's considered low.
