In December when the SCOTUS votes 6-3 to throw out millions of ballots for any number of reasons, please just remember that its decision is not as important as it would appear because #thecouphasalreadyhappened.

 

As mentioned in the RBG thread — and addressed here, because it's about politics, not her — IMHO this gives Trump a big boost in the handful of states that matter.

It's how he won in 2016: the 35 percent of nutters completely onboard his racist train, plus just enough single-issue, anti-abortion voters who hold their nose and vote for him.

GOTV will be more important than ever over the next six weeks.

 

Trump has already signaled that he will contest the election. And now he knows he'll have a clear majority willing to vote for his argument -- no matter how absurd it is.
Ever since this country's founding, people have been able to take solace in the presumption that democracy works and elections can change things for the better. Now? I'm not so sure.

If Trump and his klan occupy the White House and both houses of Congress in sufficient numbers, Social Security, to which every worker has paid, will be gutted. This will violate a presumably sacred contract between workers and their government. It will impact everybody.
For millions, health care will disappear. Needless and premature death will result for thousands every year.
But this is the one and only Party of Life. Remember?
The country rests in the hands of SCOTUS justices who have already signaled their values. People like Thomas, who hangs around tracks of a Trumpist-owned sport, NASCAR; and Beer Bong Brett, whose credit-card debt accrued buying Walgreens tickets suddenly disappeared. Just a coincidence that the owner of the despicable franchise is a Trumpist who once hosted the RNC at his publicly built ballpark for a strategy session.

 

I think it works the other way as well. You didn't wanna vote for Clinton and/or assumed she had it in the bag? And now you have another empty seat up for grabs for him to get to appoint a third justice?

 

You know McConnell has had this thing calculated to the day for months. He knows exactly what to do and when to do it. He's a wretched human, but he's a very effective politician.
