I don't know how quickly the GOP base can switch gears from Trump is Great to Someone Else is Great. Even the disillusionment/recognition that W. was a disaster took years - it wasn't until 2016 that Trump campaigned on Iraq was a disaster and won with it. Also not sure who still has some tread on their political tires like a Liz Cheney would want to pick up the banner at this point. Almost better for Team Trump to have a humiliating defeat and be able to reshape the party, get rid of all the Tea People etc. With four month until the election that's an awful quick turnaround. You'd need a Lamar Alexander type, who is heading out to the pasture in any event to run.

    This is insane.

Some other angry dude will take his place, and the next guy may even have a few working brain cells.

The angry train will roll on.

The CNN story chops his knees off time and again. Granted, it's CNN ... grain of salt etc etc ... but still.

In separate interviews, two high-level administration officials familiar with most of the Trump-Putin calls said the President naively elevated Russia -- a second-rate totalitarian state with less than 4% of the world's GDP -- and its authoritarian leader almost to parity with the United States and its President by undermining the tougher, more realistic view of Russia expressed by the US Congress, American intelligence agencies and the long-standing post-war policy consensus of the US and its European allies. "He [Trump] gives away the advantage that was hard won in the Cold War," said one of the officials -- in part by "giving Putin and Russia a legitimacy they never had," the official said. "He's given Russia a lifeline -- because there is no doubt that they're a declining power ... He's playing with something he doesn't understand and he's giving them power that they would use [aggressively]."

Then this and I'm quite surprised they let the "like two guys in a steam bath" go by unless they have videotape of Trump in a steam bath with ...

No doubt someone like Tom Cotton or the Texas Lt. Gov. will anoint themselves the leader of the Trump wing of the party - just not sure anyone without Trump's public persona can pull it off. He got a pass on most of douchebaggery because everyone "knew" that was the way he was - maybe some thought he was playing a part or whatever - but it served to "immunize" him. A regular politician without the same public profile won't get away with it.
