No, he governed like today's Democrat - with an eye on what rich, liberal people like to think of themselves. Ecumenical and fundamentally disinterested. (Which is to say, self-serving.)

Even his speech underlined that. Point 2 was stand up for what you think is right. Point 3 was to build a community of people who think differently than you because that's the only way anything gets done.

Those ideas seem contradictory, but they're not. Combined, they make up an elite who has his own ideas about how things will be done - and sets his goals accordingly - while accumulating the relationships of people who don't agree at all, and giving such little shit about their well-being that celebrating the diversity of their disagreement - which is a fundamentally self-serving act - trumps actually trying to win them over.

As it turned out, Obama didn't give much of a shit whether anyone agreed with him or not. He didn't care. He just wanted to seem like a good, cool guy. Which, he did. It's a pretty common preference of male being today. The worst thing to be is a prick.

I too voted for Obama twice and that is why I was so disappointed when:

--His first National Security Advisor, James Jones, was caught lying to the FBI about working for Lebanon, was fired just weeks into his presidency and then Eric Holder dropped the charges three years later
--He fired the FBI director for investigating Jones
--Malia and Sasha got West Wing jobs which they leveraged to gain trademarks in Thailand
--He told states they were on their own during the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression
--He helped the Saudis cover up the murder of a Washington Post journalist
--His incompetence lead to 100,000 Ebola deaths in the U.S.
--His personal attorney went to jail for the crime of paying off his porn star mistress prior to the 2008 election
--He met with Kim Jong-un at the DMZ
--He agreed to a deal with the Taliban
--He tried to get Austria to dig up dirt against Mitt Romney prior to the 2012 election
    --He denigrated NATO
--He buried translator notes from his meetings with Putin
--He regularly tweeted that George W. Bush had spied on him in 2008, including tapping his Chicago office phones
--He declared a national emergency so he could circumvent Congress and divert money to a pointless pet project
--He was so thin-skinned he refused to attend the annual White House Correspondent's Dinner (making him the first president to not appear at one)
--He charged fees to the men protecting him
--He ordered military personnel and his VP to stay at resorts he owned
--Claimed he'd be too busy to golf after years of criticism for W.'s golfing, then spent a lot of time golfing

    My grandparents are long dead.

Try: "I love my kids. So I have to vote Democratic."

And then there is the current POTUS, whose only concern is surrounding himself with those who agree with him and who publicly proclaim their steadfast and undying love. As a result, you have the death of the independent investigatory arm of the government; the death of the rule of law; abdication of responsibility in the middle of a health and economic crisis; and so much more.
