I honestly and truly hope McConnell catches taint cancer and dies a miserable death.

McConnell warns Democrats against killing filibuster

“No Republican has any trouble imagining the laundry list of socialist policies that 51 Senate Democrats would happily inflict on Middle America in a filibuster-free Senate,” McConnell wrote. “In this country, radical changes face a high bar by design. It is telling that today’s left-wing activists would rather lower that bar than produce ideas that can meet it.”

...Americans must never let this radical movement gain enough power to vandalize the Senate,” McConnell wrote. “If future Democrats shortsightedly decide to reduce the Senate to majority rule, we’ll have lost a key safeguard of American government.”

If he's actually talking about losing the senate, he must have internal numbers that are terrifying.

Given the performance of House Democrats this year, the idea that Senate Democrats would vote to abolish the filibuster is risible. Democratic members of Congress (and many Republican members) LIKE being helpless. In their minds, it's safer to say, "hey, I tried, but our hands are tied" than "hey, we did X, Y and Z." As I've said before here, the filibuster protects the majority as much or more than it does the minority. It allows the majority to take positions without facing their consequences.

I think the 60-vote threshold is good. It forces people to compromise and work together. If they won't do that, vote them out.
It would be even better if we had a strong third party. That would truly force people to come together even for a simple majority.

The alt-right manifesto that has Trumpworld talking

Written by someone with the nom de plume of "Bronze Age Pervert."

"Right-wing agitator Mike Cernovich said he knows of young staffers in the White House who are fans of Bronze Age Pervert’s Twitter account — where the author posts photos of buff, shirtless men and promotes far-right positions on the culture war — though he does not know if they have read the book."

I’m glad he’s strong on borders. Those folks in Utah might bake you a cake. A cake!

The 60 vote threshold is anti-American. If it’s truly needed, put it in the Constitution. Otherwise, let a simple majority rules like it does everywhere else.
