The Atlantic has an interesting editorial, Democracy Dies Behind Paywalls. The case for making journalism free—at least during the 2024 election.

It's probably an interesting read, but of course it's behind a paywall.

If that rumor is true, Dems should tweak Green so she calls for that vote anyway. Doesn't take much to set her off.

On the other hand, she just might call for that vote. Dems are thisclose.

    https://www.cnn.com/2024/04/21/poli...n-after-house-approves-ukraine-aid/index.html

Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Sunday said House Speaker Mike Johnson “betrayed” Republican voters after the House approved new aid to Ukraine, threatening to call a vote for his ouster if he doesn’t resign.

“Mike Johnson’s speakership is over. He needs to do the right thing to resign and allow us to move forward in a controlled process. If he doesn’t do so, he will be vacated,” Greene said on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”

I’ve said before I don’t think there is any way the trumplicans would go down a path to willingly cede control of the House.

BUT, there is also the fact many of them are objectively fucking stupid. So perhaps there’s a non-zero chance. But I still highly doubt it.

Filibuster is a Senate rule. The Democrats could remove it tomorrow if they had the votes. They don’t. Thus, Roe will not be magically restored by this Congress.

On southern governors actively campaigning against the UAW in their state:
When Tennessee got it on the ballot in 2022 to add "right to work" to the state constitution, here's what people saw. Do you really think most of the mouth breathers who would benefit from organized labor knew what they were voting for?

Shall Article XI of the Constitution of Tennessee be amended by adding the following language as a new section?
It is unlawful for any person, corporation, association, or this state or its political subdivisions to deny or attempt to deny employment to any person by reason of the person’s membership in, affiliation with, resignation from, or refusal to join or affiliate with any labor union or employee organization.

The bold parts are all they saw. Guaranteed.

I have a hard time believing it’s that easy to remove Trump from the ballot.
The recent SCOTUS ruling — I think — said Congress has to codify what defines insurrection. But it can’t make a law and then find someone guilty of breaking that law for an offense that occurred before the law was on the books. That’s an ex post facto situation.
Can someone confirm or deny here?
