I'm wondering how much of that was actually budget related belt tightening and how much of it is reshaping the newsroom staff under the new ownership.

I'm surprised Acosta has survived. He went from WH reporter to making Trump-foil his "brand." If Trump isn't a factor as much going forward, where is the value? I do think cable nets are idiots for paying "contributors" six-figure retainers when these people would probably pay six-figures for the airtime to get out their parties talking points. Martin Savidge is a solid reporter and seems to be able to parachute into global conflicts and sort stuff out quickly, while Amanpour is attending cocktail parties with diplomats. A lot of the belt-tightening is always needed, similar to landscaping after a lot of growth and the chance for Licht to shape CNN in his own way. Cilliza is a surprise, if only because he seemed to produce a lot of stuff for their digital side.

There are shreds of our democracy still in place if you look hard enough:

Even in this extraordinary situation, we are reminded why it was so important that we get the ass-clown out of office, the resources of our federal government are overwhelming to the average citizen, even an ex-president, and they will throw everything at you and wear you down.

    Look at the current standings:

    Mar-a-Lago
    Georgia Election Investigation
    Jan. 6 Investigation
    Trump Taxes/NY Fraud

Who's going to continue to fund his lawyers? At some point, the poor in the rural counties are going to run out and the wealthy, if nothing else, know better to throw good $$ after a losing hand.

This is the second or third time Savidge got caught up in CNN cutbacks, so he’ll probably bounce back. I still think it was odd the EP of Colbert was hired to run a news network.

The weird thing about Discovery even swallowing WB/CNN? - I almost think Discovery's main interest was HLN and TrueTV, rather than the more prestigious brands.

If Trump were in MLM, the FTC and a thousand other folks would’ve been after him years ago. The real shame is how his disciples are being defrauded out of millions.

Licht earned his bones producing Morning Joe, then was hired by CBS to relaunch its morning show - with a round table no less - and did so well with that, when Colber was looking for better footing in the political realm (which was a genius move) Licht was the guy. Colbert's show has pretty much morphed into Nightline/The Daily Show/ and Carson all in one. The bad news is, fewer people are watching late night shows across the board - so few that the Gutfield show on Fox News now has higher viewership.

Biden wants South Carolina, not New Hampshire, to be the first primary. Aside from the fact that it’s probably the correct move, he’s pissing off voters in a nominal swing state who won’t take kindly to it.

True, but necessary. A favor to Clyburn, whose endorsement in SC saved Biden and therefore the country. Fuck Trump, his klan and its apologists.

Still so strange that Clyburn’s endorsement in a state which is solid red in the general led to the Super Tuesday bulldozer for Biden.
