DOJ moves to unseal the warrant.

Garland gave the OK to pursue the search warrant.

Guess we'll see the warrant. Honestly, the "fair" thing to do would be to release the affidavit that got them the warrant, too.

This is presumably being done because of the public interest, but it totally serves the DOJ's purposes. The affidavit would tell us what they told the judge to allege probable cause. The warrant is essentially pointing a finger (fairly or unfairly) and making an accusation.

But they obviously are not going to tip their hand, and Trump didn't object, so I guess it's all good. Brace yourselves for more BS from Trump.

Actually giving Trump's lawyers a chance to object to the release.

You don't issue warrants unless you believe an indictment is a reasonable possibility, so there goes the idea Garland was just going to let him skate.

The court gave Trump's lawyers the chance to object. It wasn't a magnanimous gesture from the DOJ. It was Trump's right to tell the court, "Fuck no!" If he had objected, we almost certainly wouldn't be seeing the warrant (if the court approves. ... I assume it has, or else they wouldn't have had the news conference).

This was a political move, not a fairness / just move. The calculation was to make him object, and then start a, "Why is he objecting? Why doesn't he want everyone to see the warrant" campaign?

Trump brought it on himself with all of his bullshit since they executed the warrant.

But there is actually a legit reason to object, if you are a normal person, not Donald Trump. The warrant alleges a crime. People will see it and assign guilt. It doesn't benefit Donald Trump. But the calculus must have been, better to give them the OK than to risk it spiraling into a "What is he hiding?" thing.
