Due to a promotion, The Wichita Eagle/Kansas.com seeks an aggressive prep sports reporter who has demonstrated the desire and skills to build online audience and engage readers on digital/social media platforms, utilizing video in all aspects of the job. This is not a traditional beat reporting job simply focused on coverage of games and routine events. Rather, the reporter will place an intense focus on the off-the-field stories of prep sports, focusing on divisive issues, recruiting, coaching news and feature stories that will draw interest and spark emotion from audiences beyond players and their families. This reporter will be expected to move fast when news breaks while producing larger stories and features that make a difference in the lives of our readers.

This position coordinates with a group of contract writers for help with story and video coverage of key contests that have a potential to attract larger audiences.

Requirements include a bachelor’s degree in journalism or related field, one year of full-time experience in a digital-first sports/news environment, excellent writing, editing, planning and social media skills and the ability to produce engaging video with your work. Recent grads with strong internship experience will be considered.

Send a cover letter, resume, salary requirements and several examples of your best work, including videos, to Steve Coffman at scoffman@wichitaeagle.com.

And now the question: Did preps reporter get promoted to Wichita State or sports editor?

Naturally, the Eagle's home page still has Sullentrop as the Shockers' reporter.
