Preps coordinator/reporter - Las Vegas Review-Journal

The Las Vegas Review-Journal is seeking a prep sports coordinator/reporter. We cover about 60 high schools in our area while keeping our coverage to 8 core sports that are of the highest interest.

The right person will be heavily involved in producing content as well as our results management system. It would work with our crew of nightly score-takers, a columnist who focuses on high schools and a producer who runs the results system.

The position is responsible for covering breaking news on high school sports for online and print as well as for developing compelling enterprise for both platforms. They are expected to shoot video and photos when appropriate and use social media to promote their content. They are expected to live tweet, write quickly for online with updates as events develop, and then make a turn for the next-day print product.

Previous experience as a full-time reporter or intern at a midsize market or major metropolitan news organization is required as is the ability to manage a busy beat using strong organizational and communication skills.

Other requirements are Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism or related field; strong reporting and writing skills; ability to work with editors to improve content; familiarity with social media; experience with online publishing, social media and video; ability to see beyond the daily news to develop hard-hitting, compelling enterprise; and experience working with other journalists on team projects.
