The News-Leader in Springfield, Mo., is seeking a prep sports coordinator who is a go-getter. The position requires attention to detail for both digital and print; engaging readers on social media; producing videos; and demonstrating a nice touch for storytelling. High school sports mean a lot to folks here in southwest Missouri, and it’s important to develop working relationships with athletic directors, coaches, players and parents. Our coverage area stretches to 120 high schools.

The successful candidate will have at least two years of experience on a preps beat. A bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field is required. Be ready to break stories and challenge authority figures.

The city is home to high school basketball tournaments the week between Christmas and New Year’s as well as the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions in mid-January. It features big-time recruits from across the country.

Beyond preps, you’ll be asked to pitch in on coverage of the St. Louis Cardinals’ Double-A affiliate and local colleges. If you have a passion for golf, that’s a big plus. The Champions Tour’s Legends of Golf now calls Branson home, and the Web.com Tour is in Springfield every summer.

We’re located three hours from St. Louis, Kansas City; 2½ hours from the University of Missouri and the University of Arkansas; and within easy drives of Table Rock, Bull Shoals and other lakes.

For immediate consideration, please submit your resume and cover letter when applying online at www.gannett.com/careers or apply through www.Careerbuilder.com.

I can say nothing but good things about the new Executive Editor in Springfield who will start there next week. Yes, he's one of my current bosses and a great friend, but he's one of the most respected folks within Gannett. Extremely focused on digital and diving deep inside metrics, making sure online stories actually engage readers, not jut tally up page views.

Heartbroken to see him leave us in Fort Collins, but know he's going to do an amazing job in Springfield.

Good heavens. Need a phone book to keep tabs on who coaches where.
