White smoke indeed. Did choosing the last Pope take this long?

Smoke rings at this point. One side is more convinced this is done than the other, it seems.
    More to come.

It's why I used the word "may."
    They have a target.
They are (or were) in negotiations.
Sometimes shit happens, which is why I didn't say "will" have someone.

Not sure why you need to defend yourself. Shit does happen, which is why I didn't post a name. Until it's done, it's not done. Simple as that.

I'm going to sort of repost something I said a while back. The longer this goes on, the more of a mess St. Louis becomes. I say that now because if current "target," as Moddy put it, doesn't work out, there may be further revolting. I've heard stories of personal blogs calling out co-workers and such. Not a good thing.
There are some really good people in StL; all they need is some direction.

They'll get a highly regarded sports editor, one way or the other ---- within a day or two or, at worst, a week or two.

What's holding up the hiring of you?

Dooley: I think they're aiming for someone with experience as a sports editor. But my previous statement stands.

The sudden silence of The Pipeline means the snag is more than just minor. May still happen. Won't be as busy tomorrow, I can stick my nose where it doesn't belong and try to find out.

I'd sure like to hear what's going on with that hiring process.

Pretty good sports town, but any SE there doesn't have a lot to work with because of newshole limitations. Not a lot of space for a big-city paper.
