Possessives

    In almost 30 years, I've come from apostrophes on anything to almost nothing.

    The rule I live by is this:

    If you can substitute the city for the team name, and it wouldn't be possessive, then the team name isn't possessive, either.

    Detroit third baseman Joe Jones ... so...

    Tigers third baseman Joe Jones...

    That is genius. I don't usually have a problem with this, but when I do, this is the rule I'm going to remember.
