Is Clinton controversial? Oh my yes. Are many white American racists? Ditto. But there's also a predisposition to throw the GOP out. The tension between these factors is our dynamic today.

I'd have to disagree with your characterization of Edwards as an unknown. He's been in national politics for a long time and was the VP candidate the last go-round. In terms of presidential candidacy and qualifications, Obama is far more of an unknown to the general public.

And that 20 percent doesn't necessarily vote for people as much as they do against someone else.

Ah, Chicago. Vote early, vote often.

One of the things that could scare people is if... and this is a big if... some scandal takes place with Hillary or Obama in office. People would worry that it'd set the women's or the minority movement back years.
