There's a law that prohibits living persons from appearing on U.S. currency. So it might be more than a couple of decades before this is even an issue.

There aren't enough currency items to really spread the honors out. My guess is that Jefferson, Lincoln and Washington will be cut down to one denomination each, which would open up the penny, the $2 bill and the quarter for new standard-bearers.

They keep talking about eliminating the penny; I could see going to 2-cent pieces and rounding all prices off to even numbers.

Canada got rid of pennies. If you're paying cash they round to the nearest nickel. Works fine.

I'd be in favor getting rid of nickels as well. Dimes make a decent screwdriver in a pinch.

Why is it assumed there must be only one face on each denomination? I'd think people would have no trouble remembering that a bill that says $5 is worth $5 regardless of whose face is on it.

On the way to work, this morning, I waited to hand the cashier at the convenience store my eight dimes, a nickel and a penny for my $.86 Diet Coke while some kid (who, no doubt, will sometime be mucking about in my yard) paid for his equally small purchase with his debit card.

I almost let out a small dinosaur roar.
