The anthem should be done by America (the band).

Well, the second one is out just for the religious exclusion.

I love the American anthem. (Huggy can attest to my repeated attempts to get the anthem gig when one of the US teams played the Battalion). It ain't that hard to sing if you do it straight up and don't try to turn it into an American Idol audition piece.

I prefer America the Beautiful to the anthem, but there is no reason whatsoever to change the anthem.

    Our anthem sucks.

Canada's anthem is way better than ours.

But for my money, nothing beat the old Soviet Union. How can't you want to run through a wall for the motherland after hearing this?

The French also get it way right. My girlfriend who grew up with it says the lyrics used to scare her when she was a kid, though.

I sort of feel like, Whether you like it or not, it's ours and it's been ours for way too long to change it...

Why? It wasn't officially our National Anthem until 1931. In the 19th Century, they would more sooner play Hail, Columbia and My Country Tis of Thee at events. We're not really stuck with it, if we don't want to be. It sucks particularly, because it's hard to relate to today, and it is impossible to sing. It covers like 30 octaves.

I don't think it sucks. I think people are sick of it...

America the Beautiful and God Bless America will never fly because of the religious content, though I do think America the Beautiful is a beautiful song.

Dated thought it may be, I love the sentiment in the Star spangled Banner. I love our anthem.

For the record, the anthem covers only 1-1/2 octaves.

Tell me this doesn't make you proud:

In other news: I also really like My Country 'Tis of Thee.
