That's not unique to Penn State. This whole saga could just as easily play out at any BCS conference school.

    Except it didn't.

Shame? So every single person who has ever graduated from -- or even attended --- Penn State University should hang their heads in shame, burn their blue and white t-shirts and throw their diplomas in the trash because some assistant coach did something you don't approve of? Get a grip, there is so much more to a university than just one person!

No shit. The whole culture of college football is ridiculous. That's why you have normally reasoned posters losing their fucking minds over this stuff.

Yes, I would appreciate a little shame from some of the people you mention.

Yup. Sure do. But we don't dislike you for it.

    Starman,

Whatever Paterno did or did not regarding the Sandusky situation doesn't and shouldn't detract from the fact that he did a lot of good for an awfully long time. He's a legend and nothing will ever change that. You can't rewrite history to exclude the parts you don't like. If you could, most history textbooks would never include Adolf Hitler and many others. History is both black and white.

In this particular context, PC, the gravity of the transgression isn't the point.

The point here is that PSU graduates and undergrads don't owe YGBFKM any kind of shame, or anything.

You're right, shotty. They're the ones who have to look at themselves in the mirror when they apply their facepaint every Saturday. Gotta support the team!

Yes, but if they aren't, man, you're going to be the one mumbling under your breath and pushing pins in your Nittany Lion voodoo doll.

Wrong. Paterno's status as a "legend" has been utterly, completely and irrevocably rescinded. Jeez, I'd hope we could at least agree on that much.
