It's no surprise that a Harris Interactive poll shows that the pro football is the most popular, but its lead over baseball (in percentage saying it was their favorite sport) has dropped from last year's 33-14 lead to 29-14.

    The top 10:
    Pro football 29, baseball 14, college football 13, auto racing 9, men's pro basketball 7, men's college basketball 5, men's golf 4, hockey 4, men's soccer 3, men's tennis 2.

The poll results are here: http://www.harrisinteractive.com/harris_poll/index.asp?PID=719

And a good analysis of it is here: http://sportsmediawatch.blogspot.com/2007/01/popularity-contest.html

    Two interesting results:

Remembering some of Crash Davis' lines in "Bull Durham" makes me wonder which pitches liberals prefer as opposed to conservatives. :)

My list of favorites changes over time. College football used to be really low on the list (the NBA was actually higher, at one point) but now it's probably number three or four and the NBA is at or near the bottom.

Hockey is tops for me, followed by pro football, golf, college football and baseball.

    My list:
Tied for first: Hockey and college basketball; third, baseball; fourth, college football; fifth, pro football; sixth, pro basketball; seventh, women's tennis.

OK, I added a poll so we can determine out SportsJournalists.com's favorite sport.

I voted college football, but it could have just as easily been pro. Either way, football for me.

then again, I grew up in the deep south. very few pro sports franchises near me, the Saints being the only one. I love the Saints, but I didn't have much to cheer for growing up (though there were good teams in the late 80s/early 90s there). Pro football is climbing on my list, though.
