    There's another dynamic at work.

Even if someone came forward, Rove's henchmen and the right-wing pundits and bloggers would go into full attack mode. They would dig into every nook and cranny of the guy's past and use ANYTHING he may have done or said (or any inconsistency in anything he ever said) as a means to discredit him. Look how they attacked Richard Clarke, who basically told them in January 2001, "Do not take your eyes off Osama bin Laden and Al-Qaeda for one second."

Jonathan Alter wrote a piece in Newsweek explaining how it would unfold. Google "Why Watergate Couldn't Happen Today".

Unless the whistleblower came forward with incontrovertible evidence (if there is such a thing), he would be shouted down by 50% of the country. "The memos are forged! The tapes are a fraud! He has an agenda! He has an ax to grind!"

You've got a point...but I think if some high ranking person came forth with any evidence of a Sept. 11 cover up, then all the Roveian tactics in the world wouldn't work. Too many decent people would get worked up. If a John McCain or a Rudy Guliani would seize that issue, that would make all the brayings of the flat-earthers insignificant.

It wasn't over a blowjob, it was over his constant thumbing of his nose at the grand jury.

  4. Yes, nobody thought Bin Laden was determined to strike within the United States until that PDB was released.

    Give it a rest.

Ignore him. He's possibly the dumbest board member in the history of SJ, and that's saying something.

  8. Not to mention the lack of punctuation, except for the final period.

He was thumbing his Uncle Winkie at the grand jury, and it was that vestigial appendage that was once suckled.
