the no limit games at mandalay bay are usually quite soft; not surprisingly, then, the variance is high, so do be aware that -- as shoeless joe said -- you could find yourself all-in against 8-2o and lose your stack. but compared to, say, the wynn you wouldn't be playing against 'hard-core guys.'

3-6 is good to drink beer in, and donk around.

Can't go wrong in sports books.

I've been to Vegas --- once to get married --- twice in the past three months.
Call me nuts or naive, but I cannot stay away from the roulette tables, particularly the $10 minimum ones.
I make an outside bet on each spin and then bet a bunch of numbers....truth be told, I am well ahead. Perhaps I'm just lucky.

Don't be so modest. You've probably figured out a winning roulette system!

One of my favorite Vegas sites: www.cheapovegas.com . Click on a casino and they'll give you a poker room rundown. Certainly, some rooms are tougher to crack than others, some tournaments have better payback, etc. If you're new, just pick a place that looks fun. I always liked playing downtown -- fewer hotshot WSOP wannabes, and Binion's is dripping in poker lore (albeit under new ownership).

Yeah you can. No free drinks anymore.

The cheapest I found in March was Planet Hollywood. A $50 bet got me a drink slip. At Ceasar's it was $300. At the Flamingo they didn't do drink slips.

Although its cheaper to play $1 blackjack at the bar and get 1/2 off drinks.

A tip....sit in the Horse portion of the sportsbook and many will still give you free drinks.
Take the Paris book for instance. The front part is for horses, the back portion is for sports. My brother and I sat up front for three hours last week and watched a baseball game and paid zero dollars for, in all seriousness, about 20 Heineken.
Oftentimes if you make horse bets, even a $2 one, or you sit in the horse section, you will get free drinks --- I know this is the case at Paris, as I lived it last week.

I wonder why. Do they feel sorry for the horse players?

Their percentage take is higher on horses. They can stand the hit.

All of this is true. Very concisely put.
You CAN join in the fun in Vegas and not stand to lose too much.
Going to Vegas in 2 weeks, for Labor Day wkd. Wife and I will stay at Stratosphere.

That's Bizarro World poker. That guy's the producer. For every time he rivers you, he's going to produce three-fold.
Those are the guys you want to play with.

I guess I'm a bit of a rock/grinder myself. While these guys pay you off in the long run, on some days I can't handle getting to the long run. If you raise pre flop with KK or QQ and some donk calls, you jam the pot the entire way and he keeps calling only to river a flush on you then say "well they were suited" ... I tend to lose my mind. Obviously at the levels my bank roll allows me to play I don't play to win a lot of money. I play for the enjoyment of it. It's more THAT I win and not HOW MUCH won.
