It's a big problem in the military that the defense dept has tried to keep a lid on.
There was a movie done last year that won one of the Sundance Awards and has brought
a wider spotlight to the issue:

The Audience Award: U.S. Documentary, Presented by Acura, was presented by Mike Birbiglia to:
The Invisible War / U.S.A. (Director: Kirby Dick) — An investigative and powerfully emotional examination of the epidemic of rape of soldiers within the U.S. military, the institutions that cover up its existence and the profound personal and social consequences that arise from it.

In the you can't make it up category the director's name was Kirby Dick.

Ultimately - and most troubling - is the fact that we've gone four posts into this topic without a Top Gun reference.

If we don't keep those barrel fish in line, they might just well take over the world.

  6. Not related to the topic at hand at all, but The Invisible War was incredibly awesome and scary, especially since I have an 18-year old sister entering the Navy this summer.
