Plans for the "Hiatus"?

Curious to hear from sports deskers about how their papers' plan to utilize them during the hiatus. Obviously there are still a lot of stories out there in the days ahead. Season wrap-ups? Get cracking on spring previews? Plans for the agate page? Anyone getting moved over to newsside or taking vacations now?

Dan, agate won't be a problem since we have long since abandoned it.

Hopefully, more enterprisers. I'm actually pumped up about that possibility.

I had to put together my first agate page post-cancellation tonight.
Went to grab the college basketball tournament schedules ... nope.
    NBA standings ... nope.
Those college basketball TV listings that eat up an entire column? Nuh-uh.
    NASCAR is still running! Sweet!

Let's just say anyone who cares to read our agate page for the next few weeks is going to be able to ace some Sporcle quizzes. It's going to be a lot of lists of past champions, MVPs and other stuff along those lines.

With so many schools closing and/or seasons suspended, not a lot of excuses for kids not showing up for All-Area photos/profiles.

My place of employment has gone to remote working through April 5 with very limited personnel in building, and I was already told the kids who haven'd done so can't come in for their basketball pics

I'll sit around and watch the tube, but nothing will be on but Coronavirus news. Change the channels for an hour or two. Then I'll twiddle my thumbs for just a bit, get sick of the same old shit. My house will have unlocked doors because I'm fucking lazy.

Then I'll bite my lip and close my eyes, take me away to paradise. I'll be so damn bored I'll be going blind.

    And probably smell like shit.

After that, someone will probably have to peel me off my velcro seat and get me moving. I sure as hell won't be able to do it by myself. I'll be feeling like a dog in heat barred indoors from the streets. It will be like I locked the door to my own cell and lost the key.

I'll have no motovation, no time for motivation. Probably smoke up my inspiration. I'll sit around and watch the phone and no one will text. You'll probably think I'm pathetic. Call me what you will.

And when masturbation loses it's fun, I'll be fucking lonely.

Yah, you'll be a burnout basket case in the end,
pulling teeth while she ... well, she screams in silence.

Having a blast? Ha. Welcome to paradise, chump.

Ask them to send in a headshot? At this point, everyone has a phone and plenty of free time. :)

I’ll be writing features on college and pro athletes from my coverage area that I didn’t have time to do before.

I see the casinos in Vegas have furloughed and laid off a ton of workers this weekend. So what's the newspaper business going to do? I'm not trying to be an ass during this time of angst, but history tells us the hedge funders and newspaper suits are pretty ruthless. This gives them a chance to pretty much clear out their sports staffs since they have an excuse -- there are no sports. Again, they "could" do the right thing and continue to employ the sports writers and editors or they could hack the staffs in half now that they have an excuse to do so.
Fredrick is trying to not be a jerk as I really do have compassion for those who need a job and those affected by the virus, I truly do, but I would have to say their past behavior would indicate some severe furloughing/firing coming up soon in those chains that have disgraced themselves so many times in recent years.

I do want to conclude this on a positive note and say please take care of yourselves and your loved ones, listen to the mandates from the authorities and if you are religious please pray for all to come out of this OK. If you are not religious, please send good karma to all in your own way.
