Plagiarism in Greensboro

    do you think he was fired for copying stats?

    Like I said (in a very non holier-than-thou way).... If he's not guilty, then he has a made case for libel.

    Once you've sold your work once, is it really yours anymore? Probably it belongs to your publisher. And even at that, it's been used -- it's useful, sellable life is either nil or negligible.

    Not saying this makes plagiarism OK, not by a long shot. But it isn't just a black-and-white issue. If you run a restaurant and sell someone a meal, and someone steals what's left of that meal after it is "used," how big an offense is that? ;D

    As for the watchdogs of a community being above reproach, c'mon. Publishers and editors bend and fudge all sorts of rules and ethics of the profession every day -- except for those days when they're trampling them -- and you don't see many of them being fired for first offenses.
