Fair enough, Moddy, but Pederson has made some disastrous hires.

No way he can keep his job. And since a contract probably hasn't been signed yet, then he's probably getting nothing and liking it.

I'd be stunned if any college coach doesn't have a clause in there that allows schools to fire them for something of this nature.

    Pitt should hire Bill Cowher.

At the very least, this represents a serious, serious lack of judgment from this guy.

How can he go into a living room -- ANY living room -- and "sell the mom" after this?

Pitt football is like DePaul men's basketball and Charles Nelson Reilly. Relevant in 1977 and not much since.

Unfortunately, Fazio passed away from leukemia a little over a year ago. Jackie Sherrill is still alive and kicking though.
And I'd laugh my ass off if Bill Stewart came up from West By God to take the job.

Sounds about right, though I'd say more mid-80s, or at least until Marino left. Thing is, they have the TV exposure and facilities to build something if they could ever get the right coach in there. Also helps that they are in a very winnable conference with an automatic BCS bid.

I don't think Pitt is a great job at the moment, although it can be. The Big Ten teams, not just Penn State, have poached a lot of talent. Playing in a pro-sized stadium means you'll always have some empty seats, unless they have a top-10 team. I wouldn't have a lot of confidence in the people running the show, especially the AD, given the track record.

Ralph Friedgen would be a pretty good bridge-type hire for them, if he is interested in coaching next year and would commit for three or four years.
