Short-staffed this weekend at the Podunk Press.

I have to take a portrait of two volleyball players.

    What I have:
    Two players — both male
    A beach court
    Team jerseys
    Their medals
    A vollyeball

What to do? How to shoot this?

Photos is 21.5 hours from this posting.

Have at it folks. And the help is appreciated.

Almost back-to-back, quarter-angled, faces toward the camera, arms folded, no smiles. Don't need the VB or the medals, I wouldn't think.
But it might help to know the situation and what the article is about.
Did they just kick some ass in a sand volleyball tourney, or did they save a youngster from drowning in the ocean?

Typical ass-kicking, off-to-some-national tryout camp, thingy.

Then I'd go with the arms folded, back-to-back, we don't take shit from anyone scowl. Again, no need for vb or medals, but they should be wearing their jerseys. By the way, this type of pose is used widely. But, it is effective. You might want to theink about what type of background you'll be working with, also. That should be considered.

What about having them tangled in the net, tripping all over themselves?

And make sure to shoot them low; makes them look more imposing.

    Very good point.

    Here's how it went:

No nets up at the local beach court today, so quick improvisation meant one guy leaning on the side of the standard holding ball on his waist. The other leaning on front of the standard, arms crossed.

Team jerseys on. Medals, amazingly shiny by the way, around necks.

Both with shades on. Sunny as shit out.

I shot from the ground up with blue sky as the background.

As one of the players put it "This will look dope."

I can only hope. I do know it's passable for our paper.

What the hell does, "This will look dope" mean?

I don't know. I'm old. But he seemed excited when he said it, so I'll take it to mean something good.
