Phil Robertson prayed for a 'Jesus man' to be president at today's NASCAR invocation

I doubt NASCAR was apprised of his intentions.

I do, to a degree, if not necessarily how he would specifically go off the rails. And that's foremost among the reasons it should be embarrassed.

NASCAR knew what it was getting, clearly and obviously. This is 2016, Americans are pussies and will only listen to people say things they already agree with. Politics and entertainment are just preaching to the choir.

I don't think Brian France or NASCAR fans generally have the requisite level of awareness necessary to be embarrassed about something like this. Spilling a beer, yes.

I've seen invocations before Houston Astros games.

Surprised the heck out of this transplanted New Yorker to see it.

Robertson's bit was wholly inappropriate for any number of reasons, among them that there likely were TONS of Democrats in his audience. People of all ideological stripes -- from right-wing evangelical reality TV stars from Louisiana to swinging-on-the-tit lefty minions from Connecticut -- are woefully inaccurate in their understanding of the makeup of the "other side." Turns out that the more you follow politics, the worse this gets.
People wildly overestimate the number of gay Democrats and rich Republicans

Go to an African American political gathering, the praying and invocations will astonish you. The swearing in of Black elected office holders, like judges, councilmen, board of Ed members and the direct mentioning of Jesus will and should shock you.

It shouldn't surprise anyone. MLK used the church, Jesus and G-d, to legitimize and insulate, to a certain extent, his message. It should come to no surprise that right wing bigots have wrapped themselves up in G-d to justify their hate filled messages. Religion is hate

THe point was using religion to communicate a political message. King knew that his message, delivered by a Pastor and wrapped in a biblical/religious context would be more difficult to refute. Right wing zealots today's use that same playbook to denigrate gays, climate change, health care, abortion, birth control and minimum wage.

Little known fact, Bomani is Swahili for 'Nigga please?!'
