Pharm Parties

I had to go through orientation for Big Brothers/Big Sisters on Saturday, and they talked a lot about what kids are up to these days.

I was absolutely shocked to hear some of this stuff. One of the scariest things kids are doing is referred to as a pharm party. Apparently, kids snag all of the pills they can find. That includes mom's uppers and downers and so forth. Then they meet for a party and dump all of the pills into a single bowl. Then they pass the bowl around the room and you take something without really knowing what it is or what it might do. I'm sure some kids take more than one pill.

Rainbow parties are another. I'd heard of these. I might have read about them here. But I didn't realize that they're fairly common. In case you missed it, girls wear colored lipstick and guys try to get a complete rainbow on their Johnsons.

Another popular thing is huffing. Kids are putting bags over their heads and filling them with hairspray or whatever they can find. Glade, I guess, is popular. Then they tie off the bag and inhale to catch a buzz. Some just spray stuff on rags and then inhale that way.

They also talked about cutting, which I've always found disturbing.

Have kids always been this stupid? I don't remember doing any of this stuff when I was in school.

 

And I thought our keggers were wild.

 

I'm skeptical of a lot of the teenage-hysteria stuff out there.

The rainbow-party stuff in particular is long on anecdote and short on direct evidence.
