Well if you believe the ridiculous explanation for Vick's actions -- that all inner-city athletes grow up in an atmosphere that leads to killing dogs for sport -- then probably.

A good reason why Pete Carroll, Al Groh, and Kirk Ferentz would rather stay on campus and not return to the pros.

    College players act more professionally.

Sorry, but the guy took the job thinking he had the greatest single athlete in the NFL, the most exciting player not named Bo Jackson ever to play football and a franchise QB who once beat Green Bay at Green Bay in the playoffs to reach a conference championship game. When Vick went all Goodfellas, Petrino was entitled to say fuck you to ATL.

Well, Carroll and, in particular, Groh already failed spectacularly.

Carroll's done enough to warrant another shot if he wanted it, though I think he'd flop again. Any NFL team that considers hiring Groh, a walking joke who was universally despised by his players, should be disbanded.

Groh almost got the Jets to the playoffs, an achievement at any time. Can't say that he "failed spectacularly," though the writing was on the wall that his Savior was leaving Dodge.

It's much easier when you don't have to claim your earnings on your taxes.

They were 4-0, 6-1 and 9-4 that season. To miss the playoffs was indeed an epic failure.

And the team openly hated him

Minimal coaching acumen + nonexistent people skills = no chance to coach again in the NFL

Crap ... I was hoping Bobby Petrino would stay, pretty much ensuring the Falcons would stink for a while.

While Rich McKay and Arthur Blank haven't gotten much right in Atlanta, this does give them a shot to not screw it up again.

Maybe John Fox will be fired by the Panthers and hired by the Falcons, thus continuing the Falcons' stinkdom. :)

I'm trying not to throw John Fox in front of the train, as exasperating as that team has been to watch the last two months.

Here's a question for the fans in Charlotte: What do you think of Jake Delhomme now? So many so-called fans were busy trashing the guy before the season started. No one can blame him for the disaster this season ...

If Petrino thought he was in trouble without Vick in Atlanta, what's he gonna do next year in Arkansas with no McFadden or Jones?
