Flash from the past with a prophetic question at the end:

He got fired this morning, though I don't think motorcycles were involved

Several reasons you know Petrino is really hated in the business:
    1) Other coaches, aware the end was near, still poured it on. Clemson threw deep with 50 points already on the board.
    2) Coaches are always quick to lament the quick-trigger culture that can get even recently successful coaches whacked for one bad year. There have been no such lamentations from the brotherhood this fall.
    3) They never had anything nice to say about him when he was winning.

He also had his son, two sons-in-law and Dave Van Gorder Brian Van Gorder on his staff, which is proof that no one else wanted to work with him.

Maybe Dave can go back to the bigs.

Sorry, couldn't resist. And only a hapless Reds fan like me (and collector of zero-value baseball cards) would remember him.

Oh, I remember Dave Van Gorder. He was part of the parade of legends the Reds used at catcher in the early post-Bench years, along with Dann Bilardello, Alan Knicely, Alex Trevino, Brad Gulden and Mike O'Berry.

None of whom are worthy of holding the extra large jock strap of Biff Pocoroba!
