I have always said I need to cut back. Well, this year, it's happening... big-time.

Our family will spend, at most, 40 percent of last year's number.

I make more money than I did a year ago, but I'm probably spending about the same -- maybe a little more.

I think it can be misleading. I bought a lot of big-ticket items last year, which means my mom doesn't need a new computer again this year. Plus, I don't have a boyfriend to spend hundreds on.

So I'm spending less, but it's circumstantial moreso than economic.
