    Position: Per-Piece Sports Writer
    Treatment: 1099 Contractor
    Hours: Freelance/flexible
    Compensation: $10-$12/piece
    Location: Remote (telecommuting OK, US residents only)

    We're looking for freelance sports writers to file anywhere from five to 15 Q&A stories per week. Our clients include large newspapers in several major markets across the United States. Pay is per piece: $10-$12/story. Word counts range from 200 to 350, and writers are responsible for getting high-quality photos via email from their subjects.

    Journalistic writing experience, particularly in sports, is preferred but not required. Must be familiar with Skype and Google Docs and have a reliable home Internet connection, as we run a virtual office. Also required: Top-notch interviewing skills and being able to work effectively with sources and management.

    Our company is growing at a tremendous pace, and advancement opportunities are available for our top performers.

    ok, i suck at word count. how many inches is 200 to 350 words?

    depends on the newspaper, but 200 words is roughly 6-7 inches. But seriously...$10-12 per piece that appears to include some type of interview? And photos from the subject? Good luck finding quality there, folks.

    So who's the company and are the writers expected to find the people to interview or are they setup or a mix of both?

    From an experienced freelancer, two words: No way. Make it three words: No effin way. Seriously, $10-$12 for 200 to 350 words? That's beyond cheap.

    Although it beats $0 for 450 words on Bleacher Report for those who don't have a gig in the industry.

    Not really. You always claim writing for Bleacher Report is a hobby, but taking the pennies Journatic throws at you is a signal to an editor you'll do anything to work in the business.

    If your willing to work at BR you'll do pretty much anything and call yourself a columnist or whatever they call each writer now.
