If she didn't know it was coming, it was because she wasn't around for crowd rehearsal.

I walked over from my office before taping just to check out the scene, and at the time I got there some angry young British chap was telling the crowd what they were supposed to do when Blackeyed Peas came on stage. He told them that under NO circumstances should they start dancing. "There are a million videos on YouTube of people dancing to Blackeyed Peas," he said over and over, to shame the Oprah crowd out of any rhythm. Instead, he put the crowd through the paces of the exact dance they were going to do at the exact time.

So two-and-a-half hours before taping, angry British guy was showing them the dance they were going to do (the one you see on the video), when certain people would dance, and the whole ripple action he wanted through the crowd. He informed people to communicate with those behind them to help them out so the ripple effect was right.

Maybe I'm dense, but ... the guy told them under NO circumstances should they dance, and then he told them exactly how and when to dance?

Understand no circumstances should they dance on their own. Only in the way he told them to when he told them to.
