I don't know what it's like today, but when I was at freshman at Purdue 15 years ago, black students made up well below 5 percent of the student body. The number who weren't involved with the athletic department was an absolute embarrassment.

Looked it up out of curiosity. Purdue's student body was 3.4% African American in Spring 2008, according to the most recent data available on the school website. Less than 1,000 of 29,000 undergraduates:

Penn State's African American enrollment is similarly low, at 3.9% of undergrads in Fall 2010:

Which one, Dickie V or Knight, in terms of credibility?

Cael might as well coach the basketball team. If he can deliver Penn State a wrestling title in less than 5 years on the job, and go 159-0 wrestling for Iowa State, the Miracle Worker can turn the hoops team into a winner.

Then again, they Nittany Lions basketball was never an emphasis on campus or in the athletic department.

Hell, I remember when they joined the Big 10. Bruce Parkhill was coaching them in old Rec Hall. Then Jerry Dunn and as of yesterday, DeChellis.

Hey Armchair, any thoughts on PSU promoting assistant and former Drake coach Kurt Kananskie to the gig? He did go a stellar 0-36 in MVC games over a two-year span!

People would say the same thing about Nebraska, Iowa, ISU, Wyoming, and the Dakotas, if you want more examples.

If they want to go the Drake route they should hire Keno Davis.
