Nothing we say makes a difference until '08. She's got the office, no matter what critics say. That said, she made a rookie mistake and it backfired. Doesn't mean she's finished or will be a bad speaker (I thought she would before this and still do), just that she made a mistake.

    Bullshit.

She was getting ripped two days ago for supporting Murtha over a more moderate candidate that the rest of the Dems wanted.

No matter which way it went, she was going to be criticized for it.

Can't you guys at least wait until these people are, you know, sworn in and, you know, do something before you take them to task?

    BTE,

Maybe Pelosi should have done the politically wise thing and not publicly endorsed either candidate. She put herself in a lose-lose situation...and shockingly, she lost.

Since when do we have to wait until somebody is sworn in to question what they do?

Here are the highlights from a Reuters story this evening.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Nancy Pelosi, set to become the first woman to head the U.S. House of Representatives, suffered an embarrassing defeat on Thursday when fellow Democrats rejected her choice of a key foe of the Iraq war as her deputy.

A week after Democrats won control of Congress from President George W. Bush's Republicans, the leadership election raised new questions about the clout and hardball style of Pelosi, a California liberal.

Paul Light of New York University's Center for the Study of Congress called rejection of Murtha as majority leader "an inauspicious start" for Pelosi.
"What you want to do as speaker is win your first battle to create an aura of invincibility," Light said. "Clearly she has not done that.'
"It will hurt in the short run, and raise questions about her pull with rank-and-file Democrats and if can she deliver votes," Light said.

Face it BTE - Pelosi screwed the pooch which is the last thing the Democrats needed right now. They're trying to promote unity within the party and Pelosi did nothing but divide it.

And I'm sure that if the roles were reversed and the Democrats were in the Republicans' shoes, the Democrats surely would have waited until the new Speaker was sworn in and actually did something before taking him/her to task.

I like the band name Fenian and the Paste Eaters.

I'm sure someone can be found to play the washboard.
