Johan did have a CG shutout of the Mets on 80-some pitches, as I recall.

The thing about all this pitch count stuff, though, is that it really doesn't directly apply to pitchers as much as it does the managers and teams they pitch for.

Santana's pitch count is going to be lower because Gardy had a pretty quick hook once he hit 100, and because the Twins had an excellent bullpen.

Now that he's with the Mets, I'm sure they'll pitch him until his arm falls off rather than go to that godforsaken group of gas-chuckers.

You haven't yet become accustomed to the way Willie Randolph handles starters. Randolph, who aced his grad courses in the Joe Torre School of Bullpen Management, goes to the bullpen as often as he can.
