Patriots cut WR night before Super Bowl

    Oh damn, that would have been hysterical.

    I have no love for the Patriots (my Colts background coming through), but hasn't this happened before with other teams? I swear personnel moves have been made for non-injury reasons on other teams.

    Also the fact that it's not allowed. Since he was waived on Saturday, the Giants would have to wait until Monday to put in a claim.

    It's the timing of it. As far as I know, or have seen, he's the first player to be cut on Saturday night before the Super Bowl.

    Don't know about non-injury reasons, but I remember there was a really good story in Super Bowl XXXIX when the Pats played the Eagles. One of Philly's tight ends broke his foot in the NFC championship game. So to replace him, they signed a guy named Jeff Thomason, who had played for them a couple years earlier but was out of football. The guy went from working for a construction company to playing in the Super Bowl, then back to working construction after the game.
