    I don't like dead or died in a headline. It's too loud.

    Don't like passes in copy. John Smith died Thursday morning battling complications with injuries suffered in Iraq.

    So what do you use in the headline? Dead is dead, after all. And headlines are, by definition, loud.

    I would feel better about the banner ad on this page if it said "Journalism Passes Away."

    Amen.
    This thread needed only one reply. It's "died" or "dead."
    But this person pinpointed the reason we're seeing passed away more and more.
