Part-time sports reporter, Northwest Herald (Crystal Lake, Ill.)

The Northwest Herald sports department is looking for a versatile sports reporter with the ability to fill multiple roles in a part-time position (19-29 hours per week).

The ideal candidate will be someone who is accurate, detail and deadline oriented and can not only complete file a story on deadline but also complete our sports fine print page.

We are looking for reporters who can cover anything from Friday night football games to summer baseball to writing features and accurately file box scores and game stories on teams throughout the Northwest Herald coverage area, which mainly lies within the boundaries of McHenry County.

We're looking for people who can help us cultivate sources and generate story ideas for the newspaper and our award-winning prep sports Web site, McHenryCountySports.com.

The responsibilities for the part-time position include completing our fine print page, writing on deadline, taking results of high school games over the phone, and other duties as assigned.

The successful candidate must possess and maintain a valid driver's license, proof of insurance, reliable transportation and acceptable motor vehicle record. The hours for this position call for night and weekend availability. Candidates with a journalism or communications degree, or equivalent experience are preferred. Were I less employed in the in Chicago area, I would be so very all over this.

In short, Mr. Styf is really good at what he does. He will make you do stories with depth that come at things from a different angle. These are the sorts of things that bring awards and look excellent as clips. You probably want to write stories like that. If so, best apply.
