Parent confronts coach ... with a twist

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by Evil ... Thy name is Orville Redenbacher!!, Nov 18, 2009.

  1. Well this is neat, though not completely unusual.
A parent confronts an assistant football coach over his son's playing time.
The twist ... it is a college assistant and the parent is the publisher of the local daily paper and president of the WVPA. Oh, the publisher is also the chairman of the school's BOG.

The kid was embarrassed and the parent had to be escorted away.

Wonder if the story was in the Times?
The Morgantown paper, which is 10 miles up the road, had the story Saturday. The Gazette picked it up this morning.

I'm trying to find the Times-West Virginian Web site so I can find out if the publisher had a running twitter about it.

    Downsizing's a bitch, isn't it?

  6. Today, Times WV Pub. runs a Page 1 apology for his actions.
Keep in mind, the incident happended Oct. 31. No mention of the incident occured until Saturday article by Morgantown paper.
The Charleston Gazette then picked up the story Tuesday.
Today, an apology ... more than two weeks after the incident.
Though to be fair, it was a pretty thorough apology.

When I worked in Bloomsburg, the women's basketball coach confronted her daughter's HS coach about something with playing time and giving her more credit and then started spouting off at the mouth to a couple reporters. I wasn't there, but as the girls HS beat writer, I followed up on it over the next few weeks.
After a couple of weeks of us covering it, the University quietly fired the coach, politely e-mailing us a release on a Saturday night about 20 minutes to deadline.

I am sincerely sorry if I offended Coach Lanham.

Used the good ol' "if I offended".

The angry, out of control soccer chick had a better apology.
