Can someone from the Midwest answer a simple question? Why is the shocker considered obscene or in bad taste. What exactly is that cheerleader in the famous photo off a CBS telecast of the NCAA basketball tournament so scandalous? Enlighten me.

Since it is a sexual gesture, we in flyover country consider it uncouth and distasteful for what we consider family publications. We don't like it in the paper for the same reasons we don't like the words, "fuck," "pussy," "asshole," "shit," "cocksucker," etc.

By the way, I think, in the MW anyway, it's OK to publish the words, "damn," "hell," "crap" and sometimes "pissed."
