And now the Syrians want to play along.

This is going to get bloody and messy and welcome to the next world war.

  2. My favorite quote of the day (from WaPo)

"Haass, the former Bush aide who leads the Council on Foreign Relations, laughed at the president's public optimism. "An opportunity?" Haass said with an incredulous tone. "Lord, spare me. I don't laugh a lot. That's the funniest thing I've heard in a long time. If this is an opportunity, what's Iraq? A once-in-a-lifetime chance?"

A former aide laughs at his old boss and it GETS REPORTED THAT WAY.
    Tide's turned, I'd say.

This is nothing new. Not a recent turn, at least. He resigned in 2003. Wasn't really in the adminstration that long. He's been critical of the war in Iraq since he left the administration and has been pretty public about it. Maybe not as visible as Richard Clarke, but has been at it for a few years.
