    Newsday, the 400,000-plus circulation newspaper on Long Island, has an opening for visual journalists.

    Do you still love newspapers, but understand they must change? At Newsday, we do too, and we’re looking for visual journalists who want to help drive the transformation. You’re the ideal candidate if you’re the best designer at your current paper, love working as part of a supportive team and want to grow as a newspaper and online designer. You must thrive under deadline pressure, creating bold and detailed pages that include alternative story-telling techniques. You must respect readers' time and intelligence.

    The winning candidate will have solid news and photo judgment and know how to package, layer and reorganize information visually and editorially. Responsibilities could include, news, sports and feature design. Starting annual salary ranges up to $80,000-plus, and Newsday rewards its top performers.

    Qualifications include:
    * Three to five years experience at a news or design organization
    * Excellent visual communication skills
    * Solid editing skills
    * Must be proficient in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.

    "and Newsday rewards its top performers."

    One of the funniest lines ever written.

    Jimmy Dolan is an improvement?

  5. Did I see before that Newsday doesn't pay for relocation?

    Does anyplace, unless you're one of the corporate executives (or possibly in this case a publisher)?

  7. Most places still do. I thought I had seen a job ad for Newsday before that specifically said no relocation expenses.

    pressbox, I've been trying to get a job in the NYC market for a while. I don't think anybody up there pays relocation, under the assumption everyone wants to be there so people will scrape it up and move if they care.

  9. So it's basically impossible unless you live close. :)

    Or you have someone to fund you.

    Or you're independently wealthy.

    In which case you're crazy to still be in newspapers.
