Well, since we we're talking about underappreciated flicks, I thought I'd start it's natural counterpart (and if it's been done on here before, I apologize)...

I'm sure this has the potential to start some arguments, but here's a couple I thought of immediately:

American Beauty: I actually enjoyed it, but it got so much exposure that to me it sort of became a trite archetype of suburbia's problems. There is still value in many of the performances, and while it's definitely still a film I'll watch, it just doesn't do it for me anymore.

The Rock: It's probably Michael Bay's best movie (and that isn't saying much), and yeah it's enjoyable, and yeah it's got Sean Connery in it, but it's still just a fantastical action flick. Plus, Nic Cage is just eh.

    I'd love to hear more...

Funny. When I saw this thread title, I thought to myself "American Beauty."

I'll throw out "Crash." The fact it beat Brokeback Mountain for Best Picture is sad.

Never a fan of "Mystic River" either. Looking forward to renting "Gone, Baby Gone" though.

The English Patient. How in the world it won 9 Oscars is completely beyond me.

I don't think you and I would get along very well in real life.

  10. Ditto.

For overrated movies, I submit The Departed

A solid bong hit and a winning smile would change all that.
